Term 2 Wrap-Up & Looking Ahead
As we draw Term 2 to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our families and wider community for their continued support and involvement throughout the term. Our students have worked hard, our staff have delivered high-quality teaching and learning, and we are proud of the efforts being made by the students across all areas of our school.
This term, our students have achieved great success in sport, proudly representing our school in a variety of interschool competitions. A number of students have gone on to represent our region in Capricornia teams—an outstanding accomplishment that reflects their commitment, skill, and sportsmanship. We congratulate all students who participated and acknowledge the staff and families who supported them along the way.
We also held a successful Athletics Carnival, which saw our students participating, displaying team spirit, and personal achievement throughout the day. It was fantastic to witness students giving their best efforts across track and field events, and we thank our staff for ensuring the day ran smoothly. Congratulations to all students who took part, and best wishes to those who have been selected to compete in the upcoming regional trials for the Capricornia athletics team.
Young Leo’s Push-Up Challenge
Congratulations to our students who represented the Young Leo’s in the Push-Up Challenge. This spirited event brought together students and staff during lunch to take part in a fun and friendly competition. It was a fantastic display of camaraderie, motivation, and enthusiasm, with strong participation from across the school. Our Year 7 and Year 12 students went head-to-head for the top spot, and after an impressive effort from both groups, the Year 7s were crowned overall winners, with the Year 12s finishing a very close second. Thank you to all Young Leo members and support staff who organised and ran such a successful, inclusive, and school-spirited event.
Every Day Counts
We continue to reinforce the message that every day counts. Regular school attendance is vital to ensure that students remain engaged, keep pace with the curriculum, and build the skills and relationships necessary for success. We ask for your continued partnership in ensuring your child is at school on time, every day, unless unwell.
If your child is experiencing barriers to attendance—whether medical, emotional, or logistical—please don’t hesitate to contact the school. Our staff are here to support you and can work with your family to develop strategies or provide assistance to help ensure your child attends regularly and is able to thrive.
Uniform Expectations
A reminder that all students are expected to wear the correct school uniform each day, including appropriate footwear and hats. Wearing the school uniform with pride helps foster a sense of belonging and respect for our school community. If you require any support in accessing uniform items, please reach out to our Sub-School Teams.
Phones Away for the Day
A reminder to all families and students of the Queensland Government’s Phones Away for the Day policy. All mobile phones and smart devices must be switched off and out of sight from the first bell until the last bell each day. This policy supports focused learning environments, reduces distractions, and promotes positive social interactions. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation with your child.
School Renovations Update
Our school is continuing to undergo exciting upgrades. The Tuckshop, Assembly Hall, and K Block refurbishment projects are progressing well, and we look forward to seeing these spaces transformed into modern, student-centred environments that will support learning, wellbeing, and school events for years to come. We appreciate your patience and cooperation while these works are underway.
Assessment Calendars and Semester Reports
Assessment calendars for Term 3 will be distributed to all parents and carers on Thursday 26 June 2025. These calendars provide valuable insight into upcoming assessment dates and allow for planning and support at home.
Semester One reports will be emailed to families on Thursday 26 June 2025. These reports reflect your child’s achievement, effort, and behaviour across each subject area. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s report, we strongly encourage you to contact your child’s teacher to arrange a time to discuss their progress.
Year 7 Enrolments Now Open
Enrolments for Year 7 in 2026 are continuing, and we look forward to welcoming many enthusiastic and capable Year 6 students who are preparing to take their next step into high school. North Rockhampton State High School is proud to offer a supportive, future-focused learning environment that helps students transition successfully into secondary education. If you know of families considering enrolment, we encourage them to contact the school office for further information or to arrange an enrolment interview.
Year 12 Students – The Final Semester Begins
As our Year 12 students prepare to enter their final semester of high school, it is critical they remain focused and proactive in managing their learning. With external exams, assessments, and post-school pathways fast approaching, now is the time to consolidate knowledge, ask for help when needed, and make the most of every learning opportunity. Students are strongly encouraged to reach out to their teachers for academic support, and to stay organised and committed as they work towards a successful completion of their senior schooling journey.
Thank You & Term 3 Commencement
As always, we are grateful to our parents, carers, and community partners for your ongoing support. Your engagement plays a vital role in the success of our students and the strength of our school.
We look forward to welcoming all students back on Monday 14 July 2025 for the start of Term 3. Until then, I wish all our families a safe, restful, and enjoyable school holiday break.

Women in Manufacturing excursion.
A group of our Year 11 Furnishing students recently travelled to Brisbane for an unforgettable learning experience, thanks to the Rockhampton Manufacturing Hub. The trip included behind-the-scenes factory and workshop tours, giving students a close-up look at advanced manufacturing in action. They also attended the Brisbane Careers & Employment Expo staged with WorldSkills National Championships, where they heard from industry leaders and explored future career pathways in manufacturing and beyond.

Junior School Push Up Promotion
The National Push-Up Challenge is Australia's largest mental health and fitness event. This year the target was 3 249 push-ups —one for every Australian life lost to suicide last year. Money raised at this event went towards supporting Headspace. Headspace is an organisation helping a lot of our young people take control of their mental health.
To inspire participation in the National Push-Up Challenge, our Junior School had a bit of fun with a friendly Teachers vs Students showdown! The challenge? Do as many push-ups as you can in 30 seconds.
Everyone who participated gave it their all, with every competitor smashing out more than 20 push-ups—a fantastic effort! But the standout performance came from Mr Harvey, who managed an impressive 43 push-ups, just edging out Mr Moore to take the win!
Our ‘warm-up event’ worked. At The Push Up Challenge event a few days later, our Junior School Hawks outperformed both the Middle and Senior Sub Schools, showing fantastic determination and team spirit. Our Year 7s dominated overall with the highest number of push-ups completed across all year levels.
In total, over 11 000 push-ups were completed across the school—an incredible effort from students and staff alike. Special thanks to our student leadership team for their outstanding work in organising and promoting the event. Their enthusiasm and coordination helped make the challenge a memorable and motivating experience for all. Well done to everyone who participated!
A group of Junior School Students participated in the 2025 Math Team Challenge at Glenmore State High School earlier in the term. During this event, students were given the opportunity to advance their interest in creative problem solving and develop team work skills, within an intellectual and scholarly atmosphere. Students got the chance to work independently and as a team. All students enjoyed the experience and were excellent representatives for our school. Go HAWKS!
Year 7 Open Classrooms
Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for our recent Year 7 Open Classroom event. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to step inside our learning spaces and see firsthand the work students have been doing.
Our Year 7 students were proud to share their classrooms and learning with you, and your presence helped make the event a memorable one. The positive energy and support from our school community were truly appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you again at future events!
Upcoming events in Term 3:
- Rotary Trivia Challenge: held at Rockhampton State High School (students will be asked questions relating to Australiana, General Knowledge and World Affairs)
- Career Quest: an interactive event in September where Junior School Students can explore various career options, meet professionals, and learn about different industries. It's a great opportunity to discover future career paths, ask questions, and be inspired!
Looking forward to sharing more Junior School news with you.

Term 2 Middle School Reflections and Term 3 Outlook
As Term 2 draws to a close, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the remarkable achievements of our Middle School students throughout the semester. This has been a term marked by high levels of engagement, meaningful learning experiences, and commendable student growth. We are exceptionally proud of the progress made across the Middle School community.
Our Year 10 students have demonstrated strong commitment and maturity, participating in a variety of future-focused activities. These included the Level Up lessons, attendance at the Mega Career Expo, and, most significantly, the completion of their Senior Education and Training (SET) Plans. These experiences have equipped students with valuable insights and direction as they begin to consider their senior schooling and post-school pathways.
Year 9 students have also had a productive and inspiring term. Their learning was enriched by a number of sessions delivered by external organisations. We extend our sincere appreciation to Central Queensland University (CQU), Darumbal Community Youth Services, Queensland Rail, The Smith Family, and the Grin & Tonic theatre troupe for providing engaging and impactful presentations that broadened our students’ understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

Semester report cards will be available shortly and offer families a comprehensive overview of student achievement and areas for further development. These reports serve as a valuable tool to identify strengths and determine any additional support that may be needed moving forward.

Tuckshop Refurbishment Update and Uniform Reminders for Term 3
We are pleased to share that the tuckshop refurbishment is progressing well. Last week, I met with project leads Patrick and Phil to review the upgrades. As part of the new design, port racks will be installed at the front of the tuckshop to provide students with a designated space to store their bags—helping to ensure a safe and organised area during break times.
While the refurbishment continues, we encourage all families and students to keep supporting the tuckshop, which is temporarily operating out of the Trade Training Centre. Your continued support during this transition period is greatly appreciated.
As we approach the final week of Term 2, now is a good time to ensure all students have the correct school uniform items ready for Term 3. The Uniform Shop is well-stocked with formal uniform pieces to help students participate in our Formal Fridays initiative.
Please note that the Uniform Shop is currently open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00–9:00am only, due to limited site access and builder requirements related to the tuckshop project.
We wish all students, staff, and families a safe and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a great start to Term 3.
Thank you
To those that attended the Social Meeting at the Frenchville Sports Club on Monday 16 June. It was wonderful to have some informal discussions with Jacalean, Helen, Tansy and John.
