Show holiday & Athletics Carnival
Week 8 (Monday 9 June – Friday 13 June) will be a busy and exciting week at North Rockhampton State High School. On Thursday 12 June, all students will enjoy a public holiday for the Rockhampton Regional Agricultural Show. The following day, Friday 13 June, we look forward to welcoming all students to participate in our annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to represent their house with pride and for our community to come together in support of student participation and school spirit. We strongly encourage all families to support their students’ involvement and attendance.
Report Cards & Term 3 Assessment Schedule
At the end of this term the school will issue report cards to all students. These will be emailed to the first parent/carer contact listed in our school system. Should you have any questions about your child’s report card, please do not hesitate to contact the school office for assistance.
Additionally, Term 3 Assessment Schedules will be distributed alongside the report cards to assist students and families with forward planning, ensuring students can effectively manage their time across drafts, assessment due dates, and examinations.
School attendance
As we near the end of term, I would like to reiterate the importance of consistent school attendance. Teachers are beginning to introduce new units of work in preparation for Term 3 learning and assessment. Every day of learning counts, and your child’s attendance is essential to their academic progress. If your child is experiencing challenges with attendance, we encourage you to contact their Year Level Coordinator or relevant Head of Department (Junior, Middle or Senior School) for support.
Tuckshop Refurbishment
We are pleased to announce that refurbishments to the school tuckshop are now underway. Our students have shown commendable resilience and adaptability in adjusting to the temporary tuckshop service located at the Trade Training Centre café space. I would also like to thank our Hospitality students and staff for their cooperation and professionalism in sharing their kitchen and café space in the PAC during this period. We are grateful to our tuckshop staff for their ongoing commitment to providing quality food services under changing conditions.
Uniform Shop
During the tuckshop renovations, the Uniform Shop will now operate on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00am to 9:00am, remaining at its usual location. We encourage families to visit during these times and take advantage of any winter uniform specials.
A reminder to all families that, as of 2026, our uniform policy will be updated to allow only maroon jumpers and tracksuit pants. Grey items will no longer be permitted under the updated policy.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to support every student’s success. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school should you require further information or support.

Our boys' basketball teams have displayed remarkable skill and resilience this term. Mrs Livingstone’s Year 7/8 team delivered a strong performance, narrowly missing out in the semi-final. Miss Griffin’s Open Boys team also played exceptionally well, losing by just one point in extra time to SBC. A special congratulations to Mr Drane and the Year 9/10 team, who have progressed to the Grand Final to be held on Tuesday 10th June at 4:00pm in the HSC. We also extend our gratitude to Marikah Roberts for her consistent support in officiating games throughout the season.

Rugby League Update
Rugby League continues to be one of the most active and popular sports at North Rockhampton State High School. Congratulations to all our girls’ teams who are proudly representing the school in the RDSSRL competition, demonstrating skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
A special mention goes to Mr Hodgens’ Year 7/8 team for their thrilling victory in the Karyn Murphy Cup, winning in golden point extra time thanks to a match-winning try from Destiny Dwyer. Best of luck to both Mr Hodgens’ Year 7/8 team and Miss Foster’s Year 9/10 girls’ team as they head into the semi-finals this Wednesday.

Shoutout to Shanae!
Shanae is one of our dedicated Teacher Aides, she is currently on maternity leave and will return to us in 2026. SEP staff celebrated with a farewell morning tea for Shanae at the end of Week 5.
Welcome to the Team!
We are excited to welcome Bailey. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role as a Teacher Aide in the classroom and workshop. Bailey is a qualified Cabinetmaker.
NCCD and Personalized Learning
The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and government to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.
At North Rockhampton State High School, our teaching staff make adjustments to learning environments, content and differentiate classroom tasks for all students to have success when accessing curriculum. As part of keeping our records up to date we are in contact with parents/caregivers regularly.
Could you please ensure that your details are up to date by contacting Student Services on 4924 7804.
Please free to contact Case Managers to discuss or ask any questions.

Congratulations NRSHS!
Another spectacular day was had by all, at our Annual Cross Country Event held at beautiful Kemp Beach. The sun tried very hard to come out, but our students (and some staff) were still very keen to hit the track.
In a battle for house glory, we saw many enthusiastic competitors for all the houses. It was fantastic to see house pride and the hill an array of house colours.
The race day saw some very impressive performances, big smiles and a lot of house spirit as they chanted and cheered for their friends and fellow house competitors. Students also enjoyed strolling on the beach, having a swim with their friends and the calm surroundings of the day.
We’re very proud of all students who attended and who gave it a go.

K Block News
K Block is currently undergoing roof replacement. SEP staff have temporarily relocated to NO3 for the duration of construction.
QCIA Students
The Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA) recognises and reports the achievements of students whose learning is part of an individual learning program.
Year 11 & 12 students continue toward their QCIA goals to obtain their certificate.
Individual Curriculum Plans (ICP’s)
An ICP enables assessment and reporting against an achievement standard one or more years above or below the student’s enrolled year level in some or all learning areas and/or subjects. As some students enrolled are engaged with an Individual Curriculum Plan, I will be contacting parents/caregivers in the coming weeks to discuss ICP’s for Semester 2.

HOSES
It has been a busy and rewarding term for the Health and Physical Education (HPE) department, with a range of activities including multiple sports programs, our Cross Country event, and preparations underway for the upcoming Athletics Carnival on 13 June 205. Many of our junior classes have been practising athletics during lessons to ensure they are well-prepared, and we are all looking forward to a day filled with participation, school spirit, and enjoyment.
Our Year 9 students have been focusing on AFL this term. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to AFL Capricornia Development Officers, led by Mr Scott Smithwick, for their continued support. Scott has worked closely with our school over nearly two decades, and as he prepares for retirement after 18 years of dedicated service, we wish him all the best in his next chapter. His contribution to school sport and student engagement has been greatly valued.
In Week 9, some of our senior students will have the opportunity to complete their First Aid certification. This qualification is not only a valuable addition to their skillset for future employment, but more importantly, it equips them with essential knowledge for responding in emergency situations. We strongly encourage all participating students to fully engage in this important course.
Year 8 HPE classes have been undertaking assessment focused on making safe and informed decisions around alcohol and drug use. Students have been learning about both the short- and long-term impacts of these substances and how to make responsible choices. We encourage families and the wider community to continue reinforcing these important messages at home.
Finally, our Year 12 Fitness students are completing their major practical assessment. As part of this, they have been delivering personalised training sessions to clients. This includes conducting health screenings, fitness testing, and designing tailored training programs to help their clients meet individual goals—an invaluable real-world learning experience.
Thank you for your continued support of our HPE programs.
Stay active,
Aaron Harmsworth
